WYAAT is a collaborative group of six NHS Trusts working together to ensure the best possible health and care for everyone in West Yorkshire and Harrogate. Their objectives include improving patient outcomes, reducing health inequalities, and delivering financially sustainable health and care.
Automation plays a crucial role in supporting the NHS by allowing healthcare professionals to focus more on patient care. It reduces errors, improves efficiency, and saves costs. The away day provided an excellent opportunity for the Trusts to learn about the latest advancements in automation and how they can leverage them to improve their services.
One of the highlights of the away day was the presentation by SS&C Blue Prism, a global leader in robotic process automation (RPA). This session provided valuable insights into how automation can support the NHS in its mission to provide high-quality healthcare.
Rob Child, RPA Programme Lead from Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust shared his thoughts on the event:
“Today was a great opportunity to meet our like-minded colleagues from across the region face to face (instead of Teams!) to share where each Trust was in their RPA & automation journey. There were thought-provoking discussions and presentations on how we can strategically move both our own individual Trusts forward and how we can progress as a region. The collaboration and support we give to each other in this group are outstanding. I’m already looking forward to the next one! Thank you e18 for supporting the region, pulling the meeting together, and being wonderful hosts.”
Neville Croft, Theatres and Anaesthesia Service Manager at Leeds Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, also recently shared insights and experiences on how implementing a digital workforce has streamlined the administrative process and increased efficiency for the admin team.

e18 is delighted to also support Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust from the WYAAT group of trusts to deliver automation solutions that will transform their administrative processes and improve staff efficiency.
“Thank you to Louise and Ben for hosting a fantastic event with RPA professionals. It was great to have dedicated time out of the office to spend with like-minded ICS colleagues, I enjoyed hearing about their achievements and understanding how they have overcome challenges.
Being part of the West Yorkshire ICS RPA collaborative has been instrumental to the local and regional implementation of RPA. Colleagues across the ICS go the extra mile to support one another as we are all on this journey together. It helps that we are all at different stages, therefore, passing on lessons learned supports each Trust to mitigate risks and exploit the enormous scope of opportunities. I came away from the event feeling really energised and positive about our future journey.” Sarah Whitton

e18 was also pleased to welcome Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust (CHFT) to the event. CHFT successfully automated the process of transferring outpatient referral information from e-RS into the Trust’s EPR. Previously, this process was completed manually and took between 5-10 minutes per referral, described by staff as “very repetitive and mundane.” Now, automation processes around 250 referrals per day, with an exception rate of less than 5%. As a result, the Trust is saving approximately 150 hours each week, driving improved patient care and operational efficiency. Furthermore, CHFT is predicted to save £88,369 per annum from FY23/24 onwards by releasing 3.5 WTE (whole-time equivalent) vacancies.

Julian Chadha said “It was a great opportunity to meet colleagues in person and share the great work we have all been doing over the last 12 months. The support from E18 and Blue Prism has been invaluable over that time and it was great to hear about the new technologies on offer as part of the BP platform. It was a great session for the newer members of our CHFT RPA team and definitely excited them about the opportunities going forward. Thanks again to all and already looking forward to the next one!”
The event concluded with a networking session, offering participants the chance to share a common goal and discuss their experiences and ideas. It was a day of learning, sharing, and collaboration, and e18 was proud to host this important event.
“The away day was a testament to the power of collaboration and the potential of technology to transform healthcare. With our expertise in automation and digital transformation, we continue to support the NHS in its mission to provide the best possible care for all.” Louise Wall MD and Founder – e18 Innovation
