Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Integrated Care Board (ICB) have embarked on a significant journey by collaborating with e18 Innovation to leverage Intelligent Automation (also referred to as Robotic Process Automation, or ‘RPA’). This partnership aims to revolutionise healthcare services across the region, emphasising the value of collaboration, knowledge sharing, and best practices, both regionally and nationally.
There are many repetitive, administrative processes used across the organisations within the region that require both clinical and non-clinical staff to repeatedly access, review and act on information presented. These processes often require the unnecessary duplication of data entry across multiple forms or systems and/ or paper-based outputs to facilitate the transfer of information from one system to another.
Automation has various applications across a significant number of Clinical and Corporate Services, and as such is capable of directly supporting the regional objectives to be financially sustainable and deliver against efficiency and productivity targets.
Automation technology supports system-wide interoperability, helping achieve the goal of sharing real-time data across organisations by connecting disparate systems.
Matt Douglas, the Director of Digital & Infrastructure for the ICB, expressed excitement about the partnership:
“We are truly excited about the collaboration with e18 Innovation. This partnership embodies our commitment to revolutionising healthcare across the ICS through automation and data-driven insights. Working with our GPs and providers across the ICS, we will help staff to work smarter and reduce errors, delivering a patient-centric healthcare ecosystem.”
Automation is a key focus for the NHS where it promises to streamline processes, reduce errors, and enhance the overall patient experience. The partnership with e18 Innovation represents a pivotal moment for Cambridgeshire and Peterborough ICS as they seek to improve the efficiency and quality of healthcare services.

As we embark on the first stage of this ICB engagement, our primary focus will be on enhancing back-office efficiencies and boosting productivity in primary care. With e18 by our side, armed with their automation expertise, process refinement, governance support, and a clear roadmap to success, we’re poised for transformative change and positive outcomes in our ICS-wide automation journey.”
The collaboration embodies a commitment to innovation, creating a promising future for patients and healthcare professionals alike.
