e18 is proud to announce a new partnership with South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust (STSFT). We are acutely aware of the challenges faced in Cancer Services and our commitment is to support the teams to deliver exceptional patient care and improved efficiency through the introduction of Intelligent Automation.

Since the pandemic’s onset, STSFT has experienced an unprecedented surge in patient demand within Cancer Services and Outpatients’ Scheduling, leading to immense strain on its administration teams.

Working with e18, STSFT plans to introduce automation in six critical processes that directly support cancer pathways. These processes include Routine and Urgent Referrals, Routine and Urgent Referrals Upload (Direct Booking), 2WW Referrals, 2WW Referrals Upload (Direct Booking), Cancer Tracking of Investigations, and Fixing the Responsible Clinician in Meditech Appointments.  Meditech is the Trust’s electronic patient record system.

STSFT has been working with its admin teams to support this work with e18 in order to free up much valuable time for staff to help with other vital work and have more time to sensitively manage patient care and any queries.

“The administrative demands from the increasing volumes of patients referred for Cancer care are significant.  By introducing some automated processes into our daily work flow, we aim to alleviate this pressure on our teams, allowing our healthcare professionals to focus on what truly matters – delivering compassionate, high-quality care to our patients. Vicky Mitchell, Divisional Director, STSFT

As STSFT embarks on this transformative journey with the support of e18, it is focussed on its vision for excellence and providing the best possible care to local communities both now and in the future. This new partnership with e18 signals the Trust’s first tentative steps to develop Intelligent Automation to support the future delivery of excellent patient care.

“We chose e18 as our partner for this transformative journey because of their extensive NHS experience, which demonstrates a deep understanding of our unique healthcare challenges. Their ability to right-size the technical requirements to meet our specific needs was a critical factor in our decision-making process. Moreover, e18’s commitment to providing us with access to their knowledgeable team and NHS network ensures that we have the right experts by our side throughout this automation program.” Iain Smith Associate Director of Planning and Business Development, STSFT
